I don't know if this restaurant has deliberately improved due to the past bad reviews, or if the people who have bad experiences are the only ones who take the time to review restaurants.
We wandered into this Indian as the Argentinian across the street was full, others around were packed out and it smelt pretty tasty. Got seated and greeted by friendly wait staff, think we were served by almost everyone who worked there, so not sure of their system. The papadums platter was really good, then the samosa and sheek kebab was also very good. We then had the nicest lamb rogan josh I have had, melted in the mouth.
The Chicken madras was also very good, quality chicken, could have been a bit spicier. The only complaint I could have is the young waiter kept turning the footy on and putting the volume up which was not what I want to listen to while I eat. But overall the food was really great, just need to streamline their service and lose the fake flowers and tacky table numbers.

Food, I've had better Indian from a jar. At least I didn't have to cook or clean. It wasn't terrible, just not great. I can't believe a plate of papadums were $15!
Ambience, nothing special. Just another busy restaurant.
Service, fail. Understaffed.
Value, beer was $7+, mains $19.50 - $21.50. About normal to over priced for Indian. Not bad servings.
Would I go back? Nup.

I cannot qualify myself as a food critic but being an Indian food lover, this is definitely the worst experience. Please do not get me wrong, I love food in Adelaide and this is the only disappointment.
My partner and I ordered papadum platter as starter, samosas as entree, malai kofta and chicken butter masala as main, with eggplant raita, garlic naans and pulao rice. Papadam and samosas were tasty. When we tasted the chicken butter masala, we thought we had ordered chicken butter soup for the masala was tasteless and watery.
The only description to fit it would be watered-down bottled sauce. And for the malai kofta, my partner described it as bland. Not much cheese or almond, just potato balls with flavourless gravy. We tried to explain about the food to our waitress, who passed on the word to the kitchen. Not long later there was this guy who seems to be in charge glanced over our table, that was the only answer we had.
I wished we checked other reviews on eatability before made our way to this restaurant. Below take away quality food on dine out price. Total bill: $92 including 4 pure blonde beer.

So, having the assumption that our first visit may have been just an off night we revisited here on 24 May. Terrible. The waiting staff here have no clue how to look after tables or dispense good service. Staff couldn't understand what we were talking about. We were left without cutlery until after our meals were served which all came out together with our pre dinner drinks and papadams.
The order was wrong and the waiter just stood staring blankly at us when we questioned that, so we gave up and just accepted the wrong order. The pappadams were soft and stale, roti bread was hard and dry. Lamb dishes were tough and stringy. Vegetarian dishes were bland and uninteresting. Need I go on? I certainly could, just don't waste your time and money going here. There are so many more far superior Indian restaurants around town.
9 March: Had a table for two booked and we arrived dead on time, however, it seemed staff had zero interest in that fact. We then stood at the door for a while watching a multitude of people without bookings who had walked in off the street before us being seated at the best tables. This resulted in us being shunted out to the far back end of the restaurant shoved in amongst people coming and going awaiting takeaway orders and right next to the kitchen door which was continually banging in our ears.
The table was not set and there was no offer of pre dinner pappadams or water either. They are not BYO wine as claimed either. About 15 minutes was all we could bear of this before walking out without ordering. We had a fantastic night somewhere else in North Adelaide instead.

Sensational - best food and service in Adelaide city. Dishes were all delicious. Place was packed but service was swift and extremely friendly. It was our first time to Taj Tandoor but it definitely won't be our last. Very impressed especially as it was Tour Down Under week and very busy in the city. Can't wait to return.

Absolutely the worst dining experience of my life!! The food was good, but nothing to rave about and no better than any other Indian Restaurant in Adelaide.... The service was terrible, with an incredibly rude senior staff. Our "Private Room" that was booked 6 weeks earlier was full of other diners, half our drink orders were continually forgotten and 4/18 people missed out on their main meals, and then they tried to charge us for them! For great Indian Food and a great night out with excellent service - GO ELSEWHERE!
