My experience was similar to BJ01's. I kept walking past this restaurant and really love the style of the place, so in I went when I had a visitor (I've recently relocated from Sydney).

The service is slack, not casual. If your staff want to be casual that's great, but at least have knowledge of the wine menu (it's not even that big) and good understand the menu (which is a Major problem for this restaurant).

The meals are expensive, the serving portions are too small and the price doesn't reflect the quality of the food. It's an uninspired menu and feels very confused, trying to be all things and not quite being any.

It's a real pity as I really want to like this place, the actual restaurant has been renovated really well, the bar looks inviting but the restaurant/kitchen needs a major overhaul.

I will try it again when the weather heats up and sit at the bar or looking out and try the tapas menu again, the restaurant I'm not considering until there are changes.

Very pleasurable dining experience. The decor was well set out and the tables well spaced. Good lighting and general ambience. Staff were generally quick, helpful and friendly. Food was good, although I ordered my steak medium rare, as did my girlfriend, and although her steak was perfect mine was close to well done. Apart from that there was very little to complain about.

We went to Sparrow on Sat 11 June. This was my 3rd experience there and again I was disappointed. In short, the restaurant was cold, no Peroni on tap, the waiter had BO, the wine list is too limited, our pizza was cold (had to be returned), side chips were the frozen type, and all 6 of us were struggling to find something of value to order. I had the Angus, cooked nicely but without any sides. To order sides you need to spend another $10ea for small serves of carrots, etc. The desert was great, well done there. But for $100 a head, we left felling cold, hungry, and ripped off. Sorry, I want to like this place but until they make some serious improvements I feel it won't survive.

We had a fantastic breakfast here. Going in a large group meant that we could try most of the menu and there was not a single meal that we could fault. They take their food seriously here as can be seen by the seasonal updates of their menu. The seating was comfortable, spacious, which is great given that cafes are often too cramped. Service was also friendly.
